About
The quiet work of becoming yourself again
Our story
Becoming U began with a sentence Jackie Sweeney didn't hear until she was twenty-five: anxiety is a feeling, not something wrong with you.
For twenty-five years, she didn't know that. She thought she was broken. She didn't know help was real—that people specialized in exactly what she carried, that what felt like a flaw in her character had a name and people trained to meet it. By the time she found out, she'd lost years to a silence no one should have to sit in.
This work is personal for her. She knows how isolating it is to need support and not know where to turn. She also knows the other side of it—how much a single moment of genuine connection can change. Out of that came a conviction she refuses to set down: no one should face their hardest seasons alone, and connection, dignity, and real support should be within everyone's reach, not a privilege for the few.
Because the truth is simple and urgent. Too many people carry emotional and mental challenges feeling unseen. The help exists—but it's scattered, clinical, or out of reach, and it rarely speaks to the whole person behind the struggle.
Becoming U Foundation was built to change that. To break the silence for everyone still inside it.
A note from our founder
"I started Becoming U because I believe no one should have to become themselves alone. Connection and dignity shouldn't be luxuries."

Our vision
We envision communities where emotional wellbeing is accessible, where seeking support carries no shame, and where every person has what they need to feel connected and fully participate in their own life.
Leadership
Jackie Sweeney
Jackie Sweeney, M.Ed., is the founder of Becoming U and a behavioral health professional whose work spans clinical counseling, school-based mental health, and systems design. She has provided trauma-informed therapy to youth and families, leads integrated student-support systems in a K–12 setting, and is completing her doctorate in Educational Leadership. Her commitment to this work is also personal: she spent twenty-five years not knowing that help was real or that what she carried had a name, and she built Becoming U so others wouldn't have to wait that long.
