About

Becoming U Foundation

Becoming U Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving mental health access, education, and support across individuals, schools, and communities.

Why This Work Exists

Too often, individuals and communities are expected to navigate mental health challenges without clear guidance.

Families don’t know where to go.
Educators lack clear systems.
Support is inconsistent and difficult to access.

These gaps lead to delayed intervention and unmet needs.

The Becoming U Foundation exists to expand access to meaningful supports by equipping schools and communities with the education, tools, and systems needed to effectively support youth. We focus on making mental health understandable, accessible, and actionable—ensuring that individuals not only learn about well-being, but are able to access the support they need in real-world settings.

Our Mission

Our Approach

  • Clarity over complexity

  • Usability over theory

  • Real-world implementation over ideas

We address gaps by building structured, accessible systems by working across four interconnected areas:

  • Providing training and tools that build understanding of mental health and how to respond to it.

  • Supporting schools and communities in creating environments where mental health is understood and openly discussed.

  • Developing clear, simple pathways that help individuals and families navigate available support.

  • Designing and strengthening the structures that ensure mental health support is coordinated, accessible, and sustainable.

This integrated approach ensures that support is not only available—but reachable, understandable, and effective.

Guiding Principles

  • Access is essential, not optional

  • Understanding must lead to action

  • Systems shape outcomes

  • Support should be clear, not complicated

  • Sustainable change requires both people and structure

We take a whole-person, systems-informed approach—recognizing that well-being is shaped not only by individual factors, but by environment, access, and opportunity.

Meet the Founder

Jackie Sweeney is a systems-focused leader, mental health professional, and master’s-level clinician who serves as a K–12 school social worker and school counselor, as well as an author, dedicated to expanding access to meaningful support for individuals and communities. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton and her Master’s degree from Lesley University. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Systems Leadership, with a focus on developing integrated and sustainable approaches to mental health and student support.

In her professional role, Jackie works at the intersection of mental health, education, and systems coordination, supporting students, families, and educators as they navigate complex emotional, behavioral, and environmental challenges. Her work extends beyond direct care to include the development of structures and processes that improve access to support within school-based settings.

Through this experience, she has developed a deep understanding of the systemic barriers that limit access to care—particularly for individuals navigating high-demand environments without consistent resources. She has observed how gaps in coordination, funding, and accessibility can significantly impact outcomes, and how timely, well-aligned support can create meaningful and lasting change.

The Becoming U Foundation was established in response to these gaps. Grounded in both professional expertise and lived experience, the Foundation reflects Jackie’s commitment to building models of support that are flexible, accessible, and responsive to real-world needs. Rather than relying on rigid systems, her approach prioritizes adaptability, human-centered design, and long-term impact.

Her perspective is further shaped by her own experiences navigating growth, challenge, and change—informing a practice that is both clinically grounded and deeply attuned to the human experience. This dual lens continues to guide her work in creating spaces and systems where individuals feel supported, understood, and equipped to move forward.

Jackie’s work is guided by a core principle: access to support should not be conditional or difficult to obtain—it should be a reliable and integrated part of how individuals and communities function.

Through the Becoming U Foundation, she is advancing a broader vision of support—one that moves beyond isolated interventions and toward a more connected, equitable, and sustainable model of care.

We do not operate as a direct service provider.
Instead, we strengthen the environments around individuals—so that support is easier to access, navigate, and sustain.
